Moroccan thobes are recognised for their long, flowing cut and modest style. Traditionally worn in Morocco and across North Africa, they are valued for comfort in warm climates while maintaining a dignified silhouette. At CAVE, we’ve refined the classic design using natural fabrics and modern tailoring—making them ideal for everyday wear or meaningful gatherings.

A Moroccan thobe is a traditional long robe, usually ankle-length, with a straight, flowing cut. It is designed for modesty and comfort, often made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Unlike heavier outerwear, the thobe is light and breathable, making it suitable for both daily wear and gatherings.

Although the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, there are distinctions. A thobe generally refers to a long robe with a clean, collarless or lightly collared neckline. A Moroccan jubba, by contrast, is characterised by its distinctive pointed hood, which can be pulled up or left down. The jubba is often worn during cooler weather or for more formal occasions.

A jellaba (sometimes spelled djellaba) is a traditional Moroccan outer garment, also with a hood, but usually made from heavier wool or cotton for warmth. It is typically worn outdoors, particularly in the colder months, whereas the thobe is lighter and intended for everyday indoor and outdoor use.

All three garments have roots in Moroccan culture. The thobe is most associated with daily modest dress, the jubba adds a ceremonial or seasonal element with its hood, and the jellaba has been worn for centuries as a practical outer layer in North Africa’s varied climate.

We craft our thobes in premium European linen and high-quality cotton. Linen provides natural breathability and texture, while cotton is soft, easy to care for, and versatile across seasons.

Wash gently at a low temperature, inside out, with mild detergent. Avoid bleach, and allow to air dry. Linen thobes benefit from a light iron while still damp, keeping the fabric crisp and comfortable.

Moroccan thobes are versatile: suitable for daily wear, prayer, cultural events, and family gatherings. White thobes are often chosen for prayer or special occasions, while darker colours such as black are favoured for more formal or contemporary styling.
